SUMMER

It's summer.
That fact is kind of hard to process. It still feels like it's the 2nd quarter or something.
But whatever.
NO MORE 6th GRADE!
YAY!!!!!!!!!

As exciting as it is to have no more school, it's annoying. Like, suddenly, life is so boring all the time, and thinking of interesting stuff to do is an impossible task. I was good at that when I was a weirdo little kid, but now I'm terrible at it.

Here is a complete list of all the boring things I've done today:
  • slept in until like 8:00 A. M. because I was trying desperately to get out of this dream where my sister was evil and everyone thought my name was Squeeshy and my teacher was throwing paper everywhere and I was in a graveyard of famous people from history that don't even exist. It was terrible.
  • listened to Nora watch "American Restoration" like ALL DAY
  • gone with my mom to this random place where they 'alter' your clothing
  • failed to take pictures of birds in flight
  • taken a bunch more pictures of random stuff
  • had random conversations with my friend
As you can probably tell from the last bullet, my friend, who I shall call C so I don't reveal her real name to the internet, came over to my house. Here's a picture of her taking a picture of a bunny:
Here's the picture she took:
Its fluff is so fluffy I just want to fluff all its fluffy fluffery fluff.

Later today, we went to pick up my sister from her friend's house. Her friend's little brother, who is about 4, was wearing a giant wolf hat. My dad decided to be weird and asked him, "Do you eat people?" and he was like, "No! I only eat ham, and pork, and cow."
Quite random, but you have now idea how funny it was at the time. We practically exploded with laughter once we got back into the car.

Under the Bleachers, and Cat Photos!

On Saturday, me, my dad and my sister Nora rode our bikes down to the stadium, where my dad ran around the track 12 times. Nor and I weren't particularly interested in running, so we decided to be mischievous and explore all the interesting places in the stadium by ourselves.

We scurried down this ramp that went down from the bottom of the bleachers all the way to the huge front yard of the building. About halfway down the ramp, there was a fence next to a little patch of grass. Nora spotted some wild strawberries and she was wondering if we could go pick and eat some, so we climbed over the fence to get a closer look. Unfortunately, the berries looked kind of squished and weird, so we decided it would be better not to consume them.

(This is the picture of the fence next to the patch of grass that had the wild strawberries. My dad randomly asked if I wanted to keep this picture, and I was like, "Sure.")

Then we decided to go under the bleachers, since I don't think I've ever been under the bleachers before, and I doubt Nora ever had, either. Well, maybe we have, but I don't remember. But it seemed like a good idea at the time, so we did it.
Anyway, here's a picture:

Nora started excitedly zooming around through the poles, but I was feeling slightly paranoid that she would either whack her head on something or somehow mysteriously disappear, so I told her to stick close to me. Then I took some pictures...

There was lots of slippery moss and mud under our feet, and endless opportunities to whack our heads on something metal. We whacked our heads quite dramatically several times, but luckily we were still wearing our bike helmets, so our heads didn't explode. There was also a lot of stray pieces of plastic and paper probably blown in by the wind.
Nora and I found a lot of stuff, including:

  • a fully intact two-sided paintbrush
  • caution tape
  • something plastic with something on it that looks like directions on how to unlock your car using those weird unlock-from-a-distance keys
  • several clothespins
  • "leaves and dirt and vines and fungi or whatever you call it" in the poetic words of Nora
  • an object that looks kind of like a puzzle piece, but isn't
  • vines
  • a pen without the ink tube

Near the back of the under-the-bleachers place, which would probably be like under the first 2 or 3 steps of the bleachers, there was this layer of green mesh that you could see through and watch the people on the track, if you happened to be small enough to crouch down low enough to fit down there. Nora and I kneeled down and spied on our dad.

Here's the view of the track from the mesh. The guy in the purple-ish shirt in the bottom picture is our dad!

Then we climbed.
My sis happened to be wearing a very photogenic pink sunflower shirt, as you can see in the photo below.

So... our dad eventually finished running and he came over and helped Nora get onto the exercise-bar thingymadoodle that guys are supposed to use to do this weird exercise that I think is called a pull-up, but I don't really know.

Obviously, as a third grader, she wasn't quite strong enough to hoist herself all the way up there, but she was pretty strong just to be able to patiently hang there forever while I took a squillion pictures!

Then later today, shortly before dinner, I was ambling around in the driveway looking for something to take a picture of, when I noticed 2 yellow eyes staring at me from behind the tall grass.
They were the eyes of this cat!

In case you happen to not know who this kitty is, my friend Claire and I named her Rusti, and she is a neighborhood feral cat. We know she's feral because the top of her left ear is clipped off (they do that to stray cats when they perform the trap-neuter-and-release thing to show they've been neutered and stuff) and she doesn't have a collar. But we assume she must have lots of human friends in the neighborhood, because she's extremely sweet around people!
(By the way, the reason we know she's a girl is because her breed is a tortoiseshell, and strangely, all tortoiseshells are girls. It's some weird genetic thing, I think.)
Nora gave her some treats, and after that she just kept following her around everywhere. Hehe.

Then she curled up next to my leg and thumped her tail on my foot. :)

Well, thanks for reading this post, since I spent over 3 hours editing it!
If you want to read my sister Nora's blog, here's the link.
Oh, and please remember to comment! -wink-
Sooo... Bye.

My Adventures Over the Weekend

On Saturday, we went to this pastry shop to get cupcakes to bring to this random Girl-Scouts party. The line was quite long. I don't particularly like cupcakes so I wasn't that excited, but then I spotted these infinitely delicious looking fruit tarts on display:
I was like: YUMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!

So I got one, and I ate the whole entire thing myself--nobody else in my family wanted a piece of it. I think it was one of the yummiest fruit tarts I have ever eaten. But now that I think about it, probably every fruit tart I have ever eaten was one of the yummiest fruit tarts I have ever eaten. So yeah.

Then yesterday my dad and I went on a bike ride along these bike trails near the highway that apparently used to have trolleys on them (!!!) and along the way we stopped at this tiny little convenient store where I got a Kit-Kat and my dad got Twizzlers. We sat down to eat them on a bench at a random park we found along the trail. There was a table, but it was slanted and covered in leaves, and it was weirdly far off to the left instead of being right in between the two benches.

When I opened up my Kit-Kat, I noticed that the chocolate was totally melted and smeared all over the inside of the wrapper! The remaining wafer parts of the Kit-Kats were submerged in the giant blob of chocolate. I basically ended up having to fish out the wafers from the chocolate and lick the wrapper. By the end I had extremely chocolatey fingers.
